Kasenna®'s products are based on the company's core technologies for efficiently and effectively managing the acquisition, processing, distribution, delivery and monetization of high-value content over broadband networks. More than 15 core patents (issued, several pending) protect the key technologies embodied in the products. Design PhilosophyKey principles that underlie the design of Kasenna's platform are: extensibility, standards compliance, flexibility, scalability, reliability, and manageability. Extensibility: Our platform approach with open specifications and interfaces allows our customers to build their applications on top of our platform or adapt our applications to their existing environments easily. The Kasenna service delivery platform (Living Room SDK) has not only published interfaces, it also allows customers to extend the core components, build their own applications, and adapt the platform to their own business rules. Standards compliance: Where possible, Kasenna drives the use of open standards and specifications. Kasenna is a founding member of the Internet Streaming Media Alliance (ISMA). Standard formats: MPEG-2, MPEG-4 Part 2, MPEG-4 Part 10 (AVC), WM9, MP3, MPEG-1, control protocols (RTSP and LSCP), asset ingestion specifications (Cable Labs Asset Distribution Interface), and Reliable Multicast engines (NACK-Oriented Reliable Multicast) are used today. Our service delivery platform is implemented using J2EE and uses SOAP/XML web services connectors for integrating the platform with customers' OSS and BSS systems. Flexibility: Kasenna's platform enables customers to employ centralized delivery architecture and, if necessary, adapt to a decentralized distribution and delivery architecture. Our video servers are designed to operate as cache servers, library servers or hybrids. Storage system flexibility allows Kasenna servers to employ Direct-Attach Storage or Shared Storage subsystems (NAS or SAN). Network system flexibility allows our servers to be deployed in an all IP (Gigabit Ethernet), ATM or HFC networks. Scalability: Kasenna extracts unparalleled system performance from industry standard Linux/Intel platforms. Our library servers, disk-based cache servers and memory-based cache servers offer cost/performance that is unparalleled in the industry. A patent-pending High-Performance Netowrk (HPN) Streaming Accelerator provides near wire-speed streaming performance. Our own High-Performance I/O module (HPIO) for the Linux OS kernel provides industry-best disk read performance as well as QoS guarantees in the kernel. Our patent-pending Stream Clustering™ software technology enables the construction of large-scale clusters of servers that are load-balanced and redundant. ReliabilitySoftware-based RAID design, high availability and redundancy features built into our Stream Clustering design enable customers to increase the reliability of their services. Similarly, web farm clustering technologies employed in our service delivery platform increase the reliability of the services deployed using the platform. Integration of Kasenna's content and service delivery platforms meet the stringent business continuity requirements of broadband service provider customers. ManageabilityKasenna's complete integration with network management systems such as HP/Openview, as well as our Java-based console application for administering and monitoring networks of server clusters, enables customers to manage their IPTV networks effectively, reducing the total cost of operations. |
