Steve Krausz

Chairman of the Board

Steve has been involved with USVP's investments as a general partner in Checkpoint Software, Harmonic Lightwaves and Stratacom. He serves on the boards of Force 10 Networks, Agility Communications, Vontu, Kasenna®, Pathfire, Imperva, Velogix, Performance Retail, Object Reservoir, Notiva, Xponent, Synfora and Sierra Monolithics. He has led the firm's investments in Occam Networks, Verity, Accelerated Networks, Xylan, Applied Digital Access, Elantec and MicroLinear.

Steve enjoys the role of coach and mentor to CEOs and finds it rewarding when he can help them consider new solutions or gain a broadened perspective on the market environment.

He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from Stanford Business School, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar.

Howard Bubb

Board Member

Howard Bubb is Chairman and CEO of Ambric, a fabless semiconductor start-up in Beaverton, OR. Howard joined Ambric in May '05 from Intel where he was GM of Intel's Communications Infrastructure Group and a Corporate VP of Intel responsible for profitably growing Intel's business in network processors, embedded microprocessors, modular communications platforms, and optical communications devices. Previously he was President and CEO of Dialogic, a publicly traded company that was acquired by Intel in 1999 for $780 million. Howard has also held top management positions at Lexar, Telenova, United Technologies, Memorex, and Telex corporations. He holds a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, Calif.

Dr. Satish Menon

Board Member

Dr. Satish Menon, chief architect at Yahoo's media group, is a co-founder of Kasenna and as its founding Chief Technology Officer, was the was the visionary behind Kasenna's world-class IPTV solutions. One of the industry's highly regarded technologists, Dr. Satish Menon has a track record of technical innovation and a long history in the broadband media space. He pioneered IPTV and VOD server and distribution technologies and holds 3 patents with several pending.

Satish engineered the formation of Kasenna by spinning-off of SGI's Broadband Media Division as a separate venture-funded software company in 2000. From 2000 to 2006, as Chief Technology Officer at Kasenna, he oversaw the technology evolution of the company's ubiquitous video delivery platform. Prior to the formation of Kasenna, Satish was the Director of Engineering of SGI's Software Technology Group where he led the development of the company's award-winning video server and digital asset management platform. Satish started his career at SGI as a lead engineer on the first Full Service Network iTV trials conducted by Time Warner Cable.

Prior to joining SGI, from 1988 to 1994, Satish led Georgia Institute of Technology's National Science Foundation funded Laboratory for Distributed Computer Systems Research. He started his technical career at AT&T Bell-Labs where he worked on a number of different technologies including cellular telecommunications, LAN switching and UNIX kernel I/O subsystem design. Satish was one of the founding board members of the Internet Streaming Media Alliance (www.isma.tv) and has been a frequent guest speaker at technology conferences such as SuperComm, National Academy of Engineering, TelcoTV, etc.

Satish earned his doctorate in computer science from Georgia Institute of Technology.

Ted Mocarski

Board Member

Ted Mocarski is Managing Director at Key Venture Partners and brings 17 years of investment and legal experience to Key Venture Partners with a focus on communications, data services and information technology businesses. Ted currently serves as a board member of airBand, airwide solutions, Impress Software, Kasenna, OpSource, Optasite, and XyEnterprise.

Ted joined the firm in 2003. Previously, Ted was a Managing Director at Nautic Partners and Fleet Equity Partners, where he was responsible for leading the funds' investment efforts in the communications and IT industries. Ted was the lead or an early investor in a number of companies, which generated significant returns for its investors, including Exodus Communications, Dobson Communications, FairPoint Communications, and Verio. Prior to this, Ted was an attorney with Edwards and Angell, where he represented several venture capital and private equity firms.

He holds a B.A., from Colby College, and a J.D., from the American University.

John F. Shoch

Board Member

John F. Shoch is a General Partner at Alloy Ventures, Inc, an early-stage venture capital firm in Palo Alto, and specializes in information technology investing (including communications, enterprise software, Internet infrastructure, and hardware).

Prior to becoming a venture investor in 1985, he spent 14 years at the Xerox Corporation -- initially at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) where he worked on the Ethernet, internetwork protocols, "worm" programs, and other aspects of distributed systems. Later he served as Director of the Corporate Policy Committee, and President of the Xerox Office Systems Division, also based in Palo Alto.

Shoch received a B.A. degree in Political Science, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science, from Stanford University.

Saurabh Srivastava

Board Member

Saurabh Srivastava focuses on early-stage technology investments in systems and software. As a Partner of Artiman Ventures, he is currently on the boards of SiOptical, Kasenna, OpSource, airwide solutions and Ortiva Wireless.

Prior to joining Artiman in 2000, Saurabh was a Director of Mergers and Acquisitions for Cisco Systems' Corporate Business Development group, where he led the technology strategy for VoIP and wireless mobility teams, focusing on Cisco's technology and acquisition strategies in the voice-over IP, wireless/mobility and VPN areas. At Cisco he led 18 acquisitions and 10+ investments.

Before joining Cisco, Saurabh worked part time for Phillips while completing Stanford's MBA program. At Philips, he worked with a group that created the venture funding arm of Philips in the US. Prior to that, for almost eight years, Saurabh held various operating roles from engineering to engineering management, marketing and pre-sales at Silicon Graphics, Inc., Kaleida Labs and Digital Equipment Corp.

Saurabh holds two patents for networking protocol technologies.

Saurabh attended BITS, India where he earned a B.S.E.E. He also holds a M.S.C.S. from SUNY @ Stony Brook and an MBA from Stanford University, where he was an Arjay Miller scholar.
